Chef Marc Vogel To Host Culinary Excursion and Cooking School At Private Chateau in France’s Loire Valley from May 2-8, 2004

International Wine Connoisseur Michael Broadbent, M.W., To Join As Instructor

September 15,2003. San Francisco, CA – Renowned San Francisco Bay Area chef and culinary instructor Chef Marc Vogel a.k.a. “Cuisinier Mondial” will be hosting the second annual L’Ecole de Cuisinier Mondial at Chateau Detilly in the Loire Valley region of France from May 2-8, 2004. For this second annual excursion, Chef Marc will be opening the renowned private Chateau to the public where a maximum of eighteen guests will have the unique and rare opportunity to enjoy seven days of culinary education, wine tasting, recreation, and relaxation. This year, Chef Marc is proud to add Michael Broadbent, M.W., an internationally recognized wine connoisseur and author, to the program. Broadbent will guide participants through a series of tastings and education on May 6th and 7th, 2004, at the Chateau.

This beautiful 16th Century Chateau is located in Beaumont-en-Veron between Chinon and Saumur in the Loire Valley, and features spectacular accommodations, a rose and vegetable garden, a private chapel and a pool. During the week, L’Ecole de Cuisinier Mondial participants will visit both still and sparkling wineries, and dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant. Chef Marc’s culinary education will include classes in the traditional Loire cooking style as well as visits to artisanal food producers of cheese, wine, bread, produce and charcuterie. On market day in Bourgeuil, guests will experience a trip to a local French farmer’s market to purchase products for the following day at the Chateau. A gala dinner is planned for the final evening. Guests will also have an opportunity to explore nearby chateaus, abbeys and villages.

A true highlight of the week includes two days of wine tasting and dinner with Michael Broadbent. Broadbent became a Master of Wine in 1960 and head of Christies wine department in 1966. He has been Chairman of the Institute of Masters of Wine, President of the International Food and Wine Society, and is one of a handful of wine connoisseurs to be named Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite by the French government. Broadbent is the author of Vintage Wine, Fifty Years of Tasting Three Centuries of Wines, currently a best seller in the United States and Europe, The Great Vintage Wine Book, and The Great Vintage Wine Book ll, the only definitive reference book on fine, rare, and old wines, and long considered the “bible” for collectors and wine traders.

Chef Marc is a celebrated San Francisco Bay Area chef and personality who has been teaching California Culinary Academy classes and cooking around the world for private parties, state dinners and international gourmet societies for twenty-three years. He was invited to cook on the K2 China expedition in 1986, and was the first American to cook at Albert Roux's famed "Le Gavroche" in London. Chef Marc is also a regular guest on the popular radio program Dining Around With Gene Burns, and has been a presenter at the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP.) Chef Marc is currently working on a book about high heat cooking.
